Select Merge Rules for Duplicate Memberships

Organizations can select from different auto-merge rules for duplicate records.

October 1, 2019

By working with 1,000s of Organizations, we've found that Organizations approach the maintenance in membership records in very different ways. And while we've received a lot of feedback on how our software should connect or merge potential duplicate records, it has unveiled a variety of different approaches.

So we've introduced a new setting that allows Organizations to select their own approach -- based on a collection of feedback we've received.

No Merge Scenarios

One of the new options available for Organizations is to eliminate all auto-merging scenarios, so that admins have complete control over when Membership records are merged.

Limited Merge Scenarios (default)

Another option that is available for Organizations, which was previously the default behavior for all Organizations, is to only merge Memberships in limited scenarios. The limited scenarios are limited to when there is a membership with an 'Active' status and  memberships with 'Prospective' statuses.

Merge Matching Records

Another new option that is available for Organizations is the ability to auto-merge Memberships that share specific traits. This setting will automatically merge Memberships that share an email address and membership type.

Merge Similar Records

The final new option that is available for Organizations is the ability to auto-merge Memberships that share less specific traits. This setting will automatically merge Memberships that share an email address.

We built these different rules based on feedback from Organizations, so we'd love to hear what you think and if there are future opportunities for improvement!
